Accessibility

PDF Wire exists to make documents accessible, so the editor and this website should be accessible too. This statement covers the PDF Wire editor at app.pdfwire.com and this website.

Our target

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. PDFs created with PDF Wire are designed to meet WCAG 2.2 AA and PDF/UA-1 (ISO 14289-1).

How the editor is designed

  • Every feature is designed to work with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus outline.
  • Every control has an accessible name, and toggles and checkboxes report their state.
  • Text and controls are designed to meet contrast requirements, and the editor follows your light or dark theme setting.
  • Layouts reflow on narrow screens and when zoomed in.
  • Status messages, such as check results, are announced to screen readers.

Known limitations

  • The page preview and tag overlays are visual aids. The same information is available as text in the tag tree and the checks panel.
  • Checks of existing PDFs can’t yet measure contrast or confirm tab order and table header scope; these are listed in the editor for manual review.
  • PDF Wire is a test build. A full audit against every WCAG 2.2 AA criterion, including testing with NVDA, JAWS and VoiceOver, has not been completed yet. We will update this statement with the results.
